Interdisciplinary Artist La Toya Lewis received her Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice from SUNY Purchase and her Master of Music in Opera on full scholarship and fellowship at Binghamton University. Both degrees were obtained with distinction, magna cum laude and summa cum laude, respectively, and before the age of 25.
Over the span of her career, La Toya has toured with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center, performed with The San Juan Symphony, as well as had a featured appearance on the Rachael Ray Show. Recently, she has appeared as a home chef on The Good Dish on Fox. She made her Metropolitan Opera House debut in the ensemble of Porgy & Bess during the 2022/2023 season.
La Toya, also a noted and celebrated teacher, began teaching while still a student herself. She has maintained a busy private teaching studio for over twenty years. In 2017 she reunited with long-time collaborator and colleague Tony Danza to join an after-school performing arts program at the Police Athletic League, Inc. Her hard work and diligence launched her career as both Music Director and Conductor. Shortly after working with the students in the after-school program, they were invited to an all-expenses paid musical tour across China.
Following that, she honed the talents of both Inner City teens and active-duty NYPD officers to form the Cops and Kids Chorus. Through her efforts, La Toya has been instrumental in preparing them for opportunities to perform on widely viewed venues including The
Rockefeller Center, New York City’s Christmas Tree Lighting, Yankee Stadium, CitiField, and MetLife Stadium. La Toya and The Cops and Kids Chorus were invited to return to CitiField for the 9/11 Twentieth Commemoration Ceremony.
